May is named after the Greek goddess Maia, the Goddess of Fertility. May is also known as the month for maiories (elders). The birthstone is the Emerald, which stands for love and success. The Lily of the Valley is the flower for the month, and the Taurus and Gemini are the zodiac symbols.
