At Jefferson TAB meetings during lunch on March 6th, Ms. Wall and Ms. J. Miller announced the author coming to the 2018-19 school year all-TAB meeting. The all-TAB meeting is an annual event where all the TAB clubs in Arlington –every middle and high school has one– gather to meet a young adult author. Each attendee receives a copy of the book (as supply lasts), which they have the opportunity to get signed at the all-TAB meeting. (This year’s all-TAB meeting will be at Yorktown High School on April 24th.)

This year’s all-TAB author is Pablo Cartaya, author of the 2019 Jefferson Battle of the Books contestant Marcus Vega Doesn’t Speak Spanish. He also wrote the 2018 Jefferson Battle of the Books contestant The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora. “Marcus Vega Doesn’t Speak Spanish is a great book,” librarian Ms. J. Miller says. “I related to the main character, Marcus.”

Also announced at the March 6th TAB meetings was the author who’s visiting TJ for the April 25th annual TJ author visit. And, like it or not, Pablo Cartaya is also going to be visiting Jefferson for that event! Ms. J. Miller says that this was partly a coincidence. She says that APS schedules the all-TAB author. Administrators, teachers, and the TJ PTA plan the TJ author visit. “It helps to schedule an author if the author is already in the area,” explains Ms. Miller. As a result of this lucky chance, TAB members will see Pablo Cartaya twice… thrice if they win the drawing of reading 500 minutes or raising $150 through the Jefferson Read-A-Thon.

(A reminder to TAB members: Remember to turn in your permission slips to (most likely) get a free copy of Marcus Vega Doesn’t Speak Spanish.)
