On February 14th, 17 people were killed at  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Then, on February 21st students at Thomas Jefferson Middle School participated in a peaceful walkout to protest gun violence in schools.  Other schools in the U.S. had similar events.  The student-organized event was planned for noon.  At that time, the students walked out to the area near the Jefferson Garden. They then linked arms and chanted. This protest lasted 17 minutes, one minute to honor each life lost.
